About Maison Elhoria
What is Maison Elhoria?
Maison Elhoria is a UK-based brand specialising in woven kitchen and table textiles — oven gloves, tea towels, wash bags, tablecloths, and more. Founded in 2017 by Sophie, the collection is inspired by the cotton and linen textiles that belonged to her grandmothers and great-grandmothers — many still in daily use in her home in the French Basque Country. They are the proof that when something is made well, it stays.
Every product features bold, colourful Basque stripes, woven into the fabric rather than printed on top. It is a deliberate choice: woven fabric lasts longer, feels richer, and keeps its colour wash after wash. All products are made in the north of England by skilled local makers — including Amanda in Yorkshire, who crafts our bespoke pieces, tea towels, and hand towels.
Why "woven, not printed"?
Most kitchen textiles today are printed a design is stamped onto the surface of the fabric (mass produced, thinner). Maison Elhoria's fabrics are woven, which means the colour and pattern are part of the fabric itself, not sitting on top.
The difference matters. Woven fabric is more durable, has deeper colour, and develops a beautiful texture over time. It is the way quality textiles were made for generations and the way Sophie's grandmothers' and great-grandmothers' cotton and linen cloths were made, many of which are still in daily use in her Basque country home.
Where are your products made?
All Maison Elhoria products are manufactured in the UK. Bespoke items, tea towels, and hand towels are made by Amanda in Yorkshire.
Some of our fabrics are also woven in the UK our Rainbow and Red Orange Pink fabrics are woven in Lancashire from organic and recycled yarns, exclusively for Maison Elhoria.
What materials do you use?
We use GOTS-certified organic and recycled cotton yarns, as well as European woven linen. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is an internationally recognised certification that covers both the organic status of the fibres and the environmental and social responsibility of the production process.

Our range includes:
- Oven gloves: Double oven gloves, long gauntlet oven gloves, and round potholders
- Aga hob covers (chef pads) designed for AGA range cookers
- Tea towels and hand towels
- Oven cloths
- Wash bags with water-resistant, wipeable linings

What makes your oven gloves different from others?
Maison Elhoria oven gloves are woven from thick cotton not printed and made in the UK. They're designed to be thick enough for serious heat protection, but not so bulky that you lose your grip. Our double oven gloves protect both hands and wrists in one piece, while the long gauntlet gloves offer extra forearm coverage, ideal for deep ovens, range cookers, and barbecues.
Customers regularly highlight the heat resistance, the vibrant colours that don't fade, and the quality compared to mass-produced alternatives. Our oven gloves are UKCA accredited for heat safety.
Do you offer bespoke or made-to-measure products?
Yes, particularly for tablecloths, table runners, and napkins. We can also make table mats and different napkin sizes. If you have something specific in mind, get in touch with Sophie and we'll see what is possible.
Do your wash bags have waterproof linings?
Our wash bags include a practical water-resistant, wipeable lining feature, customers particularly appreciate for travel and everyday use. The bags roll up small for packing and come in two sizes, so you can pair a large bag with a compact one for different needs.

Sustainability
How sustainable are Maison Elhoria products?
Sustainability at Maison Elhoria means making things that last not making more things. Our approach is rooted in the slow fashion philosophy: buy less, buy better.
In practice, this means traditionally woven (not printed) textiles that are built to last, GOTS-certified organic and recycled yarns, and support for local UK manufacturing. We work with small British makers rather than mass-production factories, and our fabrics include Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) certified yarns.
What does GOTS-certified mean?
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It's the leading international standard for organic textiles, covering everything from the harvesting of raw materials to environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing. When we say our yarns are GOTS-certified, it means they meet strict criteria for organic status, chemical use, and fair working conditions throughout the supply chain.

Quality and Care
How long do Maison Elhoria products last?
Our products are designed to last for years with proper care. Customer reviews regularly mention oven gloves still going strong after years of heavy use. Woven fabric naturally holds up better than printed fabric over time the colour is part of the structure, so it doesn't peel, crack, or fade the way surface printing can.
How should I care for my Maison Elhoria textiles?
Here's our recommended care routine it is what Sophie uses at home, and it works beautifully:
1. Wash on a gentle cycle at a maximum of 40, with a low spin
2. For stains, soak the item in warm water and rub a natural oily soap (such as traditional Savon de Marseille) onto the wet fabric. Leave it for a few hours, then change the water and repeat if needed. This lifts dirt from the fibres gently and naturally
3. Air dry slowly, away from direct heat avoid tumble dryers, and don't place items directly on radiators, Agas, or similar heat sources
Think of it as looking after something worth keeping. A little care goes a long way.
Are your oven gloves heat resistant?
Yes. Maison Elhoria oven gloves are UKCA accredited for heat safety, giving you confidence at the oven. The gauntlet style also protects your forearms particularly useful for reaching into deep ovens or range cookers.
Worth knowing: As with all textile oven gloves, repeated washing will gradually reduce heat resistance over time. This is normal wear and you'll notice when it's time for a new pair.

Pricing and Value
Why are Maison Elhoria products more expensive than mass-produced alternatives?
Because they're made differently. Every Maison Elhoria product is woven in small batches, manufactured in the UK by skilled makers, and crafted from organic and recycled yarns. This costs more than mass production, but it also means products that last longer, look better, and support fair working conditions and local manufacturing.
It's the difference between something you replace every year and something that earns a permanent place in your kitchen.
